Achieve Healthy, Beautiful Gums with Effective Periodontal Treatments

Has gum disease robbed your smile of its health and vibrancy? The Periodontal Center of Georgia offers simple to complex periodontal treatments to repair and rebuild what has been taken from you by gum disease. Inspired by our commitment to maintain optimal gum health, Drs. Jean-Max Jean-Pierre and Robert Creager provide the latest periodontal therapy procedures in Conyers, Georgia, to overcome mild and advanced gum disease.

How does periodontal disease develop?

The primary cause of gum disease is dental plaque, which constantly forms on your teeth and gums. When you fail to remove plaque with brushing and flossing, toxins accumulate that inflame your gums, causing gingivitis—the mildest form of gum disease.

The common symptoms of gingivitis include:

  • Gum tenderness
  • Swollen gums
  • Bleeding gums, especially when brushing or flossing your teeth
  • Sensitive teeth

If you don’t address gingivitis with optimal oral hygiene and dental cleanings, it advances into periodontitis, which attacks the ligaments between teeth and gums. When this happens, your gums pull away from your teeth (recede), creating deep periodontal pockets. As more bacteria and dental calculus build up, your gum infection progresses to damage the teeth-supporting structures, leaving your teeth on the verge of falling out.

How does an experienced periodontist treat gum disease?

Our periodontal team understands the danger of gum disease. We use the latest technologies to eliminate gum disease and rebuild damaged tissues.

Your gum disease treatment doesn’t have to use invasive procedures. If you have gingivitis, we can reverse this infection with standard cleanings and a strict oral hygiene regimen of brushing, flossing, and using a medicated oral rinse. However, advanced gum disease is treated with one or a combination of the following treatments.

  • Periodontal laser therapy: Have you been diagnosed with advanced gum disease? You don’t have to undergo traditional gum surgery that uses fear-invoking scalpels and stitches. Laser gum disease treatment uses a focused beam of light energy (PerioLase® MVP-7â„¢) to remove the diseased tissues and encourage the formation of healthy tissues. Unlike the traditional cut-and-sew technique, laser therapy provides faster healing and minimal post-treatment discomforts.
  • Gum tissue and bone grafting services: When your gum infection has caused irreparable tissue damage, you may need advanced treatments to replenish the lost tissues. Grafting involves getting healthy tissues from your own body, human donor, animal, or synthetic materials and stitching them in the area with damaged bone or gum tissue. Over time, the graft and the bone or gum tissue integrate to form one healthy biological structure.
  • Guided tissue regeneration (GTR): Our office uses the revolutionary guided tissue regeneration with PRF to stimulate the regeneration of bone and gum tissues around the sites damaged by periodontal disease. This surgical process uses artificial membranes to prevent soft tissues from growing into the defective bone sites. GTR is commonly used as part of the bone augmentation procedure to prepare for implants and improve aesthetics.
